Just a hunch but I am thinking they may have put the wood supports next to the stringers to drill the deck down because they did not know how to "reevit" the deck.... Good move on ripping that stuff out.
It might be a good idea to do a leak test before you apply the gluvit.... (especially since the boat is named the sea sieve - it may have leaking problems in the past). That way you can rebuck some rivets (as necessary) and then do your gluvit, etc... Of course, I know nothing about metal boats, and have never worked on one, but I have seen some other folks do that...
The clean -up looks great. You seem to be off to a good start... and you have some very talented folks Jas, EZ and Piece guiding you along.... So, just follow in their wake and you should be good to go.
