Here is some of the latest rip out. I did get all garbage and foam out. I am going to pressure wash and get dirt out next, then get the palm sander with 160 grit and gice it a go for the inside. I just want to make sure i get all the old glue and paint off the inside. I am going to pick up Gluvit for sealing the rivets and seams.

So why the wood on the stingers like that? Mine didnt have that... prob for water flow...but was there a pipe or tube down the middle? Doesn't make sense to me cuz the base of the stringer would still be in the way... If its for support I gonna throw out that they prob aren't needed. Mine were PLENTY strong

Seems like the wood was installed by th P.O. They made channels through the bottom for water flow, but I can only assume they were installed for more support? There was not a pipe, and the middle piece isnt't channeled enough for water to go through, it's really weird. I am going to take off the middle one and probably leave the others.

Yah, I was scratching my head on the same thing there. I'd go ahead and take em all off. I can't figure what the purpose might be??? If they were installed due to some sort of issue with the alum stringers you'll want to see what's going on under neath eh.

The tear down is a big job in these Sea Nymph's, well done!

Ahhh just had a thought... remember to go around and check all the reevits (rivets) before using the gluvit. Wanna re-buck or replace any loose ones. Just go around and tap any suspects, if they wiggle choose one of the two methods.

Im with Jas again on this one... I'd remove it all and inspect those puppies... if the stringers are good there is no need for them... it would be just added weight, minimal but still...

Hey Piece.....I'm still here

Between getting wedding stuff done with future wife, N.Y. boating safety class, work, and this insane heat lately, I havent gotten much sanding done on the interior. I'm shooting to get alot more done this weekend and get some new pics up.

How's the water out there? haha.......I havent even got much fishing done yet this summer!!!!

I understand priorities but glad ur fitting in time to appease the masses with some boat work The water has been great! But the sun has been BRUTAL... We have had about 2 weeks straight of triple digit temps and NO RAIN but thats nothing new for Arkansas thats why we have so many lakes Its finally beginning to spit rain at us the past week... bunch of isolated T-storms nothing steady

Just checking in after our PMs. That's a great little fishing boat project. Nice work on the tear out. I would think at this point you'd be about at the leak-checking and fixing stage.

Hey EZ,

So far all rivets look pretty good. The bottom piece of the transom leaks, but thats because the P.O. did a horrible job of re-sealing after replacing the wood. I have a buddy, who has a buddy from his truck club that welds aluminum. So when the time is right(hopefully soon) I will get all that squared away. Right no i have to finish sanding down the inside starboard quarter. I have gone through many, so many, sanding pads to get the 4 layers of paint off. Today's project, now that wedding stuff is done with for the moment, is to finish building the motor stand and sanding whats left. Not sure exactly where you are talking about welding on the transom but BE CAREFUL. There is a thick seal between the transom piece and the hull at the bottom. Welding there could (will) melt this seal, and it'll leak like crazy where it does melt it.

Joey - subscribed and following along. Nice boat.

Just a hunch but I am thinking they may have put the wood supports next to the stringers to drill the deck down because they did not know how to "reevit" the deck.... Good move on ripping that stuff out.

It might be a good idea to do a leak test before you apply the gluvit.... (especially since the boat is named the sea sieve - it may have leaking problems in the past). That way you can rebuck some rivets (as necessary) and then do your gluvit, etc... Of course, I know nothing about metal boats, and have never worked on one, but I have seen some other folks do that...

The clean -up looks great. You seem to be off to a good start... and you have some very talented folks Jas, EZ and Piece guiding you along.... So, just follow in their wake and you should be good to go.

Ok.......Well, I am ready to get back to work on the SS Awesome very soon. Now that I am married and the honeymoon is over, it's time to get back to work. The weather around here has been cold and rainy, so all I have been able to do this week was pull the motor. I will get some pics up soon of the latest and greatest. I did find time between the last post and now to do more sanding. I still have a decent amount of old glue and paint left on the interior bow to sand down and clean off. I also have to find room under my awning on the side yard to move the SN for the winter so i have some protection from the weather while i work away!

PM-I did do a small leak test by filling up the boat with water to a "safe" level. Still not seeing any leaks except for the transom area, but that's a little Swiss cheeseish right now, haha.

After I am finished sanding the interior of the boat, can i use a zinc chromate primer spray before i apply gluvit to the seams and crevice's?

I'd use the Gluvit first. It's epoxy based and needs to be painted too!!!

I was planning on going overboard on the interior even under the deck. I want to gluvit, seal, and paint. Figure it can't hurt?
