I currently have 3 Blade Prop "13-1/4 X 17"

AND I WANT TO HAVE 4 BLADE

I will usually have two kids, 4 Adults. with Full tank of gasoline, Foods and drinks.

what is the BEST 4 blade props should i purchase.

I have seen this prop for sale.

Solas Amita Aluminum Boat Propeller #2413-128-17 for OMC - Outboard Marine Sterndrive Model 400, 3.0L Thru 1989 140 HP - iboats

I'm not worry about going MAX SPEED on this boat. Its just to cruise. I have read that 4 props blade will be best for use of my boat. but that's from other forum.. I dont ONLY trust input from Iboats..

Here's some general guidance.

RPM range should be 4200-4600. You'd want it turning near 4500-4600 rpm for good overall performance.

If you want to maintain about the same WOT rpm, drop to the next lower pitch ( 15 ) when switching to a 4 blade prop.

If you put the same pitch 4 blade on there, expect to drop 100-200 WOT rpm.

So the decision as to what pitch you need depends on what WOT rpm you're getting with the 3 blade 17.

We need all this information to not only evaluate your performance but also to tell if your tach seems to be accurate.
They often are not, especially those that have some years on them.
Also speed by gps is the most accurate as speedometers are also known to be suspect.

WOW.. I never knew All of this affects of what kind of prop i will need to purchase..

I will not be able to take the boat out next month. due to work. and maintenance of my out-drive.

I Perform the WOP test with a GPS on my phone and provide all the SPECS necessary for the best answer to my question from you Nice peoples

"I currently have 3 Blade Prop "13-1/4 X 17"" nice boat (pic)...heavy with deep V-hull. 13.25 dia seems a bit small to me.. you need to know your numbers,, WOT/RPM.... I'd venture a guess about 16p 15 dia 4 blade prop would push you nicely.. if you have anode fin, you might consider removing it and putting on a flat anode.. when I took off my 3 blade in favor of the correct 4 blade, made a huge difference, also installing a flat anode (I had to, as the 4 blade was larger dia) steering at slow speed with 4 blade and flat anode became much smoother.......

Don't get a prop until you get us your performance numbers.
Your diameter seems undersized at 13 1/4" X 17. 17" props for 3.0 are 14 4/5 diameter to about 15"
Does your present prop seem to have issues?

Re: 1987 Bayliner Trophy Hartop 4 Blade PROPS.. I dont know what buy

for sure. i will not purchase the prop yet until i perform the WOT test. The reason i want to purchase a Prop is just i want a 4 blade prop and my current prop little damage on the edge..

also. i have notice that there is a gap between the prop and the buttom of the stern drive. the size of the tip of my finger. now sure if i could purchase a bigger prop.

This boat is not for speed. i just want to be able to optimize my RPM and fuel. i will usually just use this boat for cruising around san diego bay

Your OMC 400 drive can take up to a 14" diameter prop.

You won't see that large of diameter unless you drop down to the lower pitches.

Re: 1987 Bayliner Trophy Hartop 4 Blade PROPS.. I dont know what buy

If you go to the prop section and look up props for your OMC 400 drive; you'll see that a 4 blade blade is usually a slightly smaller diameter than the same pitch 3 blade prop.

There is a reason for this. It's called blade area.

Whether you'll need a 17 pitch or a 15 pitch 4 blade depends upon what WOT rpm you're turning now with the 17 pitch 3 blade.
