rickryder, I've been reading your thread here at work when I get a few minutes. I keep reading that it takes a long time let the lumber dry out. I'm no where near being done, but was wondering if I should be looking at getting my start up materials. Not really sure what that will be yet. Also everyone has good things to say about us compsites.
Are you sure you never done this before? haha Seems your plans are very well thought out. It's funny when you read these forums you can just get the feeling that sooooooo much work and MONEY has gone into these projects. This site is awsome! I hope that one day I will be able to look at my boat and say I did that as we're flying around the river.

Yes Robert this was my first resto.... I could not have done it without the help from the great people that helped me here on iboats :D

I recomend you get your plywood material as soon as you can and let it dry out.....shouldn't take too long in the hot Texas heat!

post some pics of what you still have to remove so we see what your dealing with ;) Do you have a service manual for your outdrive and motor?

Went home read the section but still lost. I'll Try to fumble through it again tonight. I know you can't help w/o pics. I have pics on phone but cant load them. Sorry

Thanks Sander, I like it too. Just showed my dad the boat for the first time & he was trying to tell me to tab into the existing "ROTTEN" stringers. Tried to explain that all the wood in the fibergalass that runs along the bottom all the way up to the bow. Don't take the gas tank out he says. Not really trying to hear it. Mr. RR there's some sorta star socket that mount the (exaust bellows?) Gonna see what page it is on the manual u sent me. Gotta good look at what I need to do. (PSYCH:confused:) haha. Taking it slow cuz it seems that's the only way it goes

Hey RR in the manual u sent on 2A-6 page there's some screws there that I need to remove. Recognize that tool? It removes the exhaust ?

I can't really see it from the manual.... is the star indented or is the bolt head a star? Either way I would say it's a torx bit. It's either a regular torx if it's indented like an allen or it's a reverse/inverted torx if the head of the bolt is a star....Sears tool area or a local auto store should have them.

ok I got the innner transom plate off. Took me a few different trips to the store to get the right tools. Not too far from getting it all broke down. Ready to start getting down to business w all this grinding. Thanks again guys for your help and suggestions. Its HOT! P.S. I've been reading how to remove the bellow and shift cable but I still can't figure out how to remove the pins to pull the side. Very confused but will keep at it. Gotta be a way to get it off just not sure. Talking about the bell housing (outter transom?) Sorry

I'm pretty sure this is what you need. They are very soft metal or aluminun and strip out fairly easy.
RR,,I do believe, used a alan wrench but don't quote me on that.

I was able to change out my bellows and cable without removeing the gimble but was a real pain and I don't recomend it but it can be done.

Hey thanks Mr. Produce, I think I'm finally cleared up on what the heck it is I'm trying to do. Didn't realize what the hingr tool was supposed to be doing. Got plenty of allan wrenches to try. Believe me if I didn't have to replace the transom I sure wouldn't be doing this. haha I do want to try and do the best I can and no half doing it.

once you get the transom plate off.......by the way its a standard 12 pt socket....7 16th i think....thats for the exhaust. the outer ones are 5/8 ths if i remember correctly..

you dont need to pull the shift cables from the outer bell....they just slid thru the inner plate...leave them on.. just make a note what holes the wires for the trim and cables go thru...take a pic of it assembled or two. once you get the water hose disconnected and the exhuast off....just undo the outer bolts from the inside of the transom and the transom plate will easily come off. the outer plate/bell is more than likely glued on with 3m 5200.....so you will have to pry it off. just slip a screw driver between the hull and the bell...and start prying.......there is just a foam gasket in there......dont worry about it ....you wont hurt anything.

after you get the thing off......measure the thickness of the transom including the hull.....i beleive its slightly less than 2 ins....your new transom must be the same thickness.

the key hole in the hull is your template......it makes it really easy to cut the new t hole.

I think your talking about the gimble ring bolts....the ones behind the trim switches....a 1/2" allen wrench will fit..... I used a 1/2" drive 1/2" allen socket.

Well not too much accomplished this weekend. Worked on getting the bow part of the decking out and grinding a few hours. Hot hot hot! trying to get the hull grinded down even where the plywood decking will lay on the hull. S.T. yours sure is looking good!
