Gentlemen,

I had an issue this weekend with my starter. It appears the bendix gear isn't correctly engaging the flywheel. I have posted a link to a slow-motion video I took of the issue. It appears the nut is spinning below the bendix, but the bendix itself isn't. Also notice that the bendix gear doesn't fall back down after power is cut. I am wondering what could cause this problem? Is the starter not getting enough juice from the batteries or solenoid, or is there something sheared in the bendix apparatus? Neither? The link is below

Thanks,

Scott

Have your battery load tested as step one.

Step two is throw away any wing nuts and use real nuts when you are done cleaning all cable ends and connections.

A little lithium grease on starter shaft is helpful but won't solve above mentioned issues.

Starters are super easy to disassemble and inspect brushes and what not.

There's a nut missing off the top of the shaft, this will assist in pushing the bendix back down.
The bendix is slipping, you need a new one.

All electric starter bendix assemblies of that type contain a built in clutch to absorb shock.

The clutch in that bendix is faulty....... the cure is to install a new bendix.
