Hello Folks,

I just traded my aluminum jon for this 1988 Lancer fiberglass 14.6' bass style boat. The engine runs fantastic, but it takes the motor FOREVER to plane the boat off (even at full throttle), but once it does it'll fly. The prop thats on there is a 11 3/4 by 17, now this prop is beat up and needs to be replaced anyway, but I think it still should plane the boat off. To get the boat on plane I had to stand up and lean forward. This boat is not that heavy and this 40 should blast it out the hole.

1. Is this too much pitch for this engine/ boat?

2.) what is the standard prop for this motor?

As always I appreciate it

I would like to know the weight of your boat. you might want to try a 12 1/4 x15 prop on it. Also the anti cavitation plate should be even with the bottom of the boat. Standard prop is 12 1/4 x 15.

agree with ^^^ also balancing your load, getting weight forward will help plane. if all the weight is in the stern, it is hard to plane, also tilt angle of the motor. the foot closer to the transom, pushes the bow down, foot away from transom, pushes bow up.
