1988 larson with 5.0

i dont know if anyone ever had this problem before i start my boat when i try to pu in gear i hear engine rpm go up an nothing happens?? prop wont turn ?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... See if the controller is movin' the shift cables back by the motor....
