1989 85h force, how to take apart gear housing

i have a 1989 85h force, and the yoke or something inside came undone when the pin in lower unit was removed to drain oil instead of the drain plug. Is it difficult to take the lower unit apart to hook the shift yoke back up. do u need a special puller for the gear shaft or can a normal puller work. can not find much on this matter.

Salt water makes it harder to work on.
Have you moved the shift lever?
Tried to reinstall the pin/screw?
I think???
Remove prop,then the zinc.
Then the bolts holding the bearing carrier.
Then push IN on the carrier.
Remove the 2 half moon keepers in front of the carrier.
Then with some kind of puller remove the carrier and the prop shaft and reverse gear set.
Then you should be able to fix the problem.
I think???

i live in ny no salt water. tried putting pin in everthing is unhooked inside shift lever loose.

Try searching "pivot pin" or "slick trick" in this forum, I know there are a couple of guys that have been successful replacing the pivot pin by pulling the lower and fishing the linkage back into position.
