1989 FORCE 85 HP WHAT'S IT WORTH ????

All:<br /><br />I just water tested a 19 ft Spectrum alum, boat with a 89 Force 85 HP, it went well. The engine ran quite well and the lower unit lube is clean. What is a motor like this worth, with controls and all. I have a 88 yamaha 70HP with low hours I am thinking of swapping out. Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.<br />Thanks<br />RB

You will probably get responses on the Force like "if it has been well maintained it is a good motor." I think the consensus will be however:<br /><br />"It is hard to get parts."<br />"They haven't been made in a number of years."<br />"Most marine mechanics won't touch them."<br />And the most common - "they are a piece of sh&t."<br /><br />I had a Chrysler years back (predecessor to the Force). I had no problem with mine but I remember asking a factory trained mechanics once of his opinion in the Chryslers. He said "Outside of the power head it is a fine motor."

$600-$800 on ebay, parted out. About the same if sold whole.

That 70 is going to work its heart out on that Spectrum. It will probably perform about the same as the 85 Force though.<br /><br />Spectrum/Bayliner tended to underpower those boats, from the get go.
