Thanks. My wife came out and saw the boat for the first time since it had carpet in it. She looked over the gunwale and had a look of terror on her face.

Wow... you made great progress. You can see the water staining on the ill where water was sitting. Mine was the same way. My foam looked the same way in the picture above where you thought it was a prior repair. I believe it is where water got in and froze, pushing the foam out of the way. Over a few winters of that, you get a big hole.

Thanks, it's slow going. The reason I think it's a repair is because there is a section of foam cut out in a straight line and it looks like the chopped out foam was jammed back in place. There is also an extra piece of plywood deck screwed in from the side. It's easier to see in the vid I made. I am going to try to pull the motor soon but my brother is borrowing the engine hoist to do a swap in his car and I am not sure if I'll have enough height. I may need to rent one of those big gantry style hoists like you did.

I've owned my boat for 7 years, but it is now 21 years old and in need of some structural 'attention'.

I am going to try to pull the motor soon but my brother is borrowing the engine hoist to do a swap in his car and I am not sure if I'll have enough height. I may need to rent one of those big gantry style hoists like you did.

I'll refer you back to my demolition thread listed in my signature. If you build wood stands like shown, the average car cherry picker will be *just* high enough to get the engine out. I've done it on that boat, and also my 88 Sea Ray. I have some pictures at home of the clearance - I was just about at the end of the travel of my cherry picker, and had about 2" clearance over the side of the boat.

I did read that thread. I also saw someone with an F-250 that mounted the lift in the bed with some straps. I may do that too since I have the same lift and truck.

Probably an hour or so from you. I am about five minutes off 495 in Milford if you are really bored and want to do demo.

Yep that is the way they make them. I went back with 3/4" ply on my stringers. As long as you do not let water back in, you will never have to worry about that again.

Hi,
We had that wet heavy snowstorm right after my last update and that kept me out of the backyard for a bit. Meanwhile, I had a bunch of car repair projects come up and I haven't dedicated any serious time to it. I did drain most of the fuel tank by hooking up the electric pump from a friend's race car. I hope to get out there this weekend and finish draining the tank and pulling it out.

Holy procrastination Batman. It's been a year since I posted in this thread. (total coincidence I logged in today) I haven't really done much to the boat other than clean more garbage out of it. I started a bunch of other projects, car rebuilds, home renovation, etc.

The boat pretty much looks just like it did a year ago.

I have the opposite problem of most married men. My wife kept bugging me, "when are you going to buy another boat? when are you going to buy another boat?". So, I bought this one.
Problem is, it's too nice to fish from. I need something for fishing so I think I am going to continue on with the rebuild and just install one folding captain's chair on a pedestal and leave the floor open. In order to buy a new boat, I had to finish a car rebuild I had been doing. I just finished it and sold it, so now I have the time and money to do what I need to do.

This is the car I just finished which ate up a lot of time and money.

Yea, I got a similar reaction from my wife when I told her the engine on my 242 hydro-locked and we were looking at about $5k to replace the engine.

She said, don't bother spending any more money on that boat, just get a 'new' one. . . .

I may consider parting it out or selling it, I just have no ambition to deal with it. The problem is, once the powertrain is out, it's hard to get rid of. Maybe the warm weather will inspire me again.
