At a crossroad. Engine needs to be replaced. Gotta decide if I want to put that kind of $ into it or push it to the curb for sale as is. Still mulling it over. Got a couple of other boats, so I can still fish. Not going without.

How's your ride working out? A fish catching machine?

No big boat news to report really, still researching new engine options and such. Be different if I was doing the work myself vs paying someone for sure. But... I'm not a wrench.

Really was just updating signature line with 2012 fish porn pics. Will share that I have been doing a ton of fishing. Walleye's in Detroit River, and just won our first major Salmon tournament of the year. 2012 Salmon Spring Fling tournament out of Port Huron. 2 day tourney, over $6,500 in cash, prizes, bragg'in rights.... oh... and a little trophy too! May help make my engine decision a little easier?! Still check in here daily to monitor everyones progress :)

If you want to top your personal best Salmon, you're gonna need that boat, something trailerable, cause you ain't gonna do it in Lake Michigan. There's a 40 out here with your name on it I hear:)

What's up with the motor bud? Is that a small block Chevy in there? I know my way around a sbc pretty dang good. If it's the outdrive well. SEI make new replacement ones.

hey it's been awhile since I've logged on hows the boat going?? fishing gettin in the way???? lol. I love this boat easy to trailer and it fishes like a big boat at a much cheaper price. I see your looking for a replacement motor or debating it. I have the v-8 in mine and can't remember what you have but find its a nice match for the boat. heard the 6 was to under-powered and I would believe that. Congrats on the latest win will you be out to salmon splash next week? I hope to be in manistee this weekend and maybe do the tourny next week.

Wassup gang?!

Nice to see some old faces 'round here.

No new progress, as yes... fish'in is definately gett'in in the way of any forward boat progress.

Awesome year on eyes in the Det. River, Smallies on St. Clair, FL Keys & Bahama's for whatever, Lake O for some big Kings, and over to Ludville for the next 8 weeks!

As far as the boat engine... It is a small V-8, 305 I think... and if I replace it, it will be with a built 350 :)
I'm a big fella and it'll need some power to get my coolers up on plane.

May have to turn in my man card as a Starcraft restorer, as it appears I'm really just a fisherman. Stay tuned...

Dang, your fishing makes up for any thing else! I'm really just a fisherman too, I can't afford anything more than a project so here I am. If you need any help holler.

Re: 1989 Starcraft Bluewater 221 Offshore - Restoration

I had to register for this forum just to jump in on this thread. Great boat for a restoration, bud -- my father-in-law bought the same model about 3 1/2 years ago, and we fish it out of Muskegon and Ludington. It was fully rigged and just 20 miles down the road from his place in Goodrich. We've had a little success, but the truth is, we're advanced beginners and that's all. We did land a couple 12lb coho this past weekend, and had a blast. I'm afraid that with a couple small boys at home, I'm not able to get out as often as I'd like these days... But we make the most of it.

Anyhow, my brother and I are both in S/E Michigan, and would love to drop in some time and compare notes on fish and the Bluewater 221 if you'd enjoy the company. I know we could learn a lot from you, and maybe we have some insights to offer. I sure hope you didn't get rid of her!

I would mention that we just had to swap out our 305 this year due to a cracked block (ugh!), and had Tony at Lapeer Boat Services drop a 350 in for us. He handled it all, and it now runs really smooth. It took a couple weeks, but he did a great job. It sits up on plane much quicker, and we had no problem with 5 adults on board (the 305 struggled to make it on plane). I think we need a new prop on it, though, because we're topping out around 30.

Let me know if you'd like to compare notes. And I'll try to post some pics at some point -- not my strength, LOL.

Best,

Scot,

Thanks for swinging by the thread & taking a peek!

Goodrich is a stones throw from me as I'm in Richmond area.

Always welcome a chance to chat with fellow fisherman and compare notes!

I keep a charter boat over in Ludington, my second backyard :) Fish there all the time.

Have seen other Bluewaters over there from time to time. Wonder if it may have been you fellers?

Shoot me a PM with contact info and we'll see where she goes.

Thanks for the reply!

We've been out there a few times over the past month or so, so if you've spotted the Trooper (inherited the name -- looking for a better one) that was us.

I do have a question for you though, as a knowledgable boater... What do you suppose the tow weight is for this craft, including trailer, fuel and 350 engine? I've been trying to figure a weight, and I'm coming up with about 4000 lbs. Am I way off?

I'll shoot you a PM with contact info.

We'll gang, final post for this thread. Boat is sold! Turns out I just like fish on boats, a lot - not restoring them :) Thanks for looking!
