Re: 1989 Starcraft Bluewater 221 Offshore - Restoration
I had to register for this forum just to jump in on this thread. Great boat for a restoration, bud -- my father-in-law bought the same model about 3 1/2 years ago, and we fish it out of Muskegon and Ludington. It was fully rigged and just 20 miles down the road from his place in Goodrich. We've had a little success, but the truth is, we're advanced beginners and that's all. We did land a couple 12lb coho this past weekend, and had a blast. I'm afraid that with a couple small boys at home, I'm not able to get out as often as I'd like these days... But we make the most of it.
Anyhow, my brother and I are both in S/E Michigan, and would love to drop in some time and compare notes on fish and the Bluewater 221 if you'd enjoy the company. I know we could learn a lot from you, and maybe we have some insights to offer. I sure hope you didn't get rid of her!
I would mention that we just had to swap out our 305 this year due to a cracked block (ugh!), and had Tony at Lapeer Boat Services drop a 350 in for us. He handled it all, and it now runs really smooth. It took a couple weeks, but he did a great job. It sits up on plane much quicker, and we had no problem with 5 adults on board (the 305 struggled to make it on plane). I think we need a new prop on it, though, because we're topping out around 30.
Let me know if you'd like to compare notes. And I'll try to post some pics at some point -- not my strength, LOL.
