Doesn't the 6oz woven need the csm anyways to adhere? I don't think tabbing would be needed, right? I was planning on a layer of csm either way.

This is just for capping stringers and cleats. Not sure if you need csm I'm not a poly guru. I would say no though. You just are waterproofing. Good question though.

Thanks, I know you are an epoxy guy, build to survive nuclear fallout..:joyous:
I mean thats why 1708 has the .8oz csm. So when laying 1708 on top of each other, then the woven has something to adhere to. I will do the same on the deck with the 6oz woven. that one will have a layer of csm underneath.
I think I will just go with the csm. The ski locker will have 3 coats of gelcoat and I will put a mat in there to protect it a little from bouncing things.
The tank will get a layer of csm and thats it. Will be closed up. No reason to polish up a dark room.

csm is there for hiding the fabric , in most instances no one uses it that way on stringers , at least that was what i was told , my original stringers on several boats had no csm just 24 oz roving if you arent worried about seeing the fabric several layers of 6 oz will add up but you wont achieve thickness you would with csm , however most folks say csm has no structural value.

When I took my stringers apart, there wasn't much fiberglass thickness on the wood that was left over. It all appeared to be thin csm on the upper third portion of it. the bottom was thicker where I have it tabbed with the 1708. It's always questionable how tall to go with the 1708. I wonder what the builders used for tabbing.
The csm provides some strength to stringers I believe otherwise whats the point. Could just smear poly on it and be done.

CSM is for the bonding of the glass and somewhat of waterproofing. That's poly, No strength. I ran full height with my glass and if you consider the points you just noted about your build then maybe full height will make more sense to you.
Totally your call.

I'm always second guessing myself. That's what I do. Since there are so many ways to do things. My stringers are very tall in my opinion and I have seen other boats with short stringers. The tabbing looks small in my boat in relation to the stringers. I kinda followed Mechanicalmike08 . Friscoboater went all the way up tabbing.
Like I said, mine did not have woven on the stringers going up. just the spray on stuff they use with a roller at the factory. Build em cheap and fast. I could have used another 5 gallons and a good 5yd of 1708 to completely wrap my stringers with 1708. It would be better but not sure if it is/was needed. At least mine are capped and tabbed even at the transom which was not the case when I took it apart.

My tabbing was simply the glass full height. So the first glass was @2" to hull/full height, the next 2" over the hull glass prior. In most cases I ran the glass on the hull to the next stringer. My stringers are anywhere from 18" to 24" with some at 4".
That's just me. Overkill! I'm keeping this boat.:D
Factory builds are just crap....that's why we are all here mostly.
I'm my own King of pondering and second guessing.

Thanks. Seeing a deck in there again made me smile.
My 80 year old sewing machine burnt my vinyl. I changed the old bulb now with led. Brighter and won't burn. Its right in the middle and I think I can fix it with a nice gray countour patch. Gotta work around your screw ups.

Not much done this weekend. Running errands and doing a supply run. I started putting csm on under the deck pieces. the 4x6ft pieces kick butt and soak up resin like crazy. oh well that's why we do this so it wont rot again.

Today i pushed a little harder. Got all my deck pieces covered with csm. Done with my 4th bucket. Covered the tank coffin and the ski locker with csm.
btw. Vacuuming the fine dust with a shop vacuum that has a bag is alot better than the sock that you can put over the center. You keep the suction going. I saw friscoboater in the videos saying that he emptied out the vacuum alot and he did not have the bags.

The bag is where its at, i bought the cheaper ones that were for "bigger" objects and not for fine dust but it caught everything. I only went through 2 bags on the whole project.
