So I was oit in our boat this weekend. And after a little bit of driving I started to hear a fast beeping noise from the controls . It is not a constant beep. It is a fast beep. Which I have read is for over heating ? Is that correct. However. The engine dies not feel hot at all. Not one bit really. It still works great. Pops out of the water hard and fast. Does 44mph. And idles great. The two heads on the block feel warm sure. Bit not 212 degrees like the material I have read says that the temp switcjes in the heads will close ground and sound an alarm. So I feel like I have a BAD switch in the head. I guess my question is. Do these switches go bad from time to time. And are theyveasily replaced as well as how. It should also be noted that when I wiggle the wire it occasionally makes the beeping stop. As well as if I house my tilt trim. The buzzer stops until the trim stops. Any thoughts and or input would be appreciated.

P.s... I do still have a good solid per stream from tje motor. And it is not Hot at all..

A warning every 1 or 2 seconds is a oil flow/restriction problem in the VRO pump. You need to pre-mix your fuel until that is looked at. Here are the warnings for your motor. You mave have a bad connection in the wiring something to look at.

A solid tone is the overheat warning.
A beep every 1 or 2 seconds is a no oil flow/restriction alarm
A beep every 20-30 seconds is a low oil warning in the tank

The Vro has been disconnected for almost ten years . I should have mentioned that. Sorry... The beeping is fairly fast . Like 2 to 3 beeps a second... Or more...

Look at your wires because you should only have a solid tone for overheat.

I will check the wiring for sure. However. When I disconnect the left hand side wire from the over heat switch onthe head. The buzzer stops. But like I said before . the head does not feel overly hot . and definitely not any hotter then the right side. Does anyone know if the temp switches in the heads can actually go bad ? Ans if so... Are they hard to replace .

(VRO Horn Warnings)
(J. Reeves)

NOTE: I retired around 1991/92. Possibly some of the later V4 engines and others may also incorporate a fuel vacuum switch that would enable a fuel restriction warning to sound as mentioned below, an unknown factor to myself.

1 - A steady constant beep = Engine Overheating - The V/6 engines, some others, have a "Fuel Restriction Warning" which is also a steady constant beep.

2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)

3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).

NOTE - If the warning horn is the black plastic (overpriced) three wire type horn, the warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected.

The horn has always beeped once when the key is first turned on. Still does . I dont beleive its over heating at all. Yet the beeping is fast. And goes away when the left hand side sensor/switch in the head is disconnected. It stops beeping.
