I bought this boat and it ran great. Took to lake and it wouldn't hardly plane. Found a mousenest in back of motor cowling. Got it out, took carbs off and had them cleaned and rebuilt in a tank overnight, had fuel pump rebuilt, link and sync plus new plugs. The boat still is sluggish out of hole with low rpm's and then gradually picks up rpm's and takes off. Will not idle or start unless motor is trimmed up level and even then if you put it in gear it dies unless I am giving it fuel with the hotfoot. once on plane it runs smooth and clean and fast. I am going crazy with this. I can put plugs in it and it does great for about 2 or three times taking off, then its back to same old thing. it also smokes blue really bad for about 15 seconds. I mix oil and gas 50:1 and use pennzoil synthetic. I use 87 octane ethanol free gas. I looked at my fuel filter which appeared to have hair and little black specs in it but could still blow through it pretty good. I have a generic primer bulb on it but don't know if that is the problem. I have a bob's racing foot with low water pickups on it and a mercury trophy plus 4 blade prop on it with a 25 pitch. This engine should idle and not shake hard like a plug isnt firing all the time. on slow idle with foot on gas sometimes it shakes and knocks like crazy. Compression is good on all.
