Price wise you should have some room to bargain on the Rogue. I paid $20k 3 years ago and that included a 2005 Eagle galvanized triple axle trailer.

I would of course recommend lining up a marine surveyor in your area who can do a full survey (including mechanical systems) on whatever boat you choose. Boats that size can have some real hidden problems.

Yeah, he was asking 20 for it, but I got him down to 18. It'll all be contingent on survey and sea trial results, of course. Maybe I'll be able to wiggle him down a little more after the survey, we'll see.

Ugh, i know. I was originally lusting after a 32' Wellcraft St Tropez. I've loved those since I was a kid. They're big, comfy, spacious and really sharp looking. I was so excited when I found a bunch of them for sale in my price range. Some of them looked to be in really great shape, too. When I started digging a little deeper, I found rotten stringers and soggy decks in every example Total bummer

One thing that was nice about that boat was the fact that, since it was so popular, there was lots of information available. The stringer problem was a well documented one. That's what was slightly worrying about the Doral and the Cruisers, I couldn't find a lot of information about them. They both seemed to fly pretty low under the radar.

I think the Doral has the OMC engines... Are they junk?? I know nothing about marine engines.

Not junk by any means, just no longer in business for OMC and non-supported by Ford. The 5.0/5.8L Ford engines themselves are about as bulletproof as you can get, but when something Volvo/OMC specific breaks or needs work done, the pool of parts is very small (meaning possibly $$) and the number of mechanics who know how to work on them is even smaller.

I have a Ford 5.8L (351w) in mine, but luckily it's a Mercruiser unit, so 99% of the parts are universal with the GM brethren, not really the case for OMC stuff.

Well, I went and saw the Doral, and I'm sold. I loved it.

I like the layout a lot better than the Cruisers. It's already in the marina I want, which doesn't currently have any openings, so that's a plus. I also like the fact that the asking price is $12,500. I've got a surveyor lined up, and a mechanic also, so if it's too good to be true, hopefully i'll find out before he cashes the check. Fingers crossed for the deal of the century!!

Turns out it was too good to be true. The owner sold it out from under me.

So! The Cruisers wins by default! haha. I do feel good about it though, thanks to this thread. She'll be a fine vessel.
