1991 6.0-HP tell-tale sometimes

This outboard is new to me. I have ordered an impeller, waitin on it to arrive.

I have the LU in a water container(not on muffs). When I start this motor for the FIRST time each day there is a good stream of water coming from the tell-tale, but after I shut her down and restart it no water comes out. It has done this 3 times already. Has anyone seen this happen before? Thermostat maybe? I've read it's good measure to install a water pump kit, wish i'd read that before ordering just the impeller.

I think you are on the right track with replacing the water pump.

Ok thanks once again Daviet.

It just baffles me that once it's warm it doesn't pump.

The tell-tale is before the thermostat, it is an indicator of the pump output. Replacing the impeller is the first place to start.
