Re: 1991 Bayliner Capri Restore

There are holes that water goes under the back seats, but it stays in there and I have looked for how it can drain out of those two seat boxes and have found no place for the water to go? Should the seat boxes have holes in the bottom floor? Mine are so sealed that water stays in for months and I have to shop vac it out? Am I missing something? Can I drill a hole in the floor under the seat. We were afraid of going through to the gas tank or through the outside of the boat? Any help thanks.

Also - need lower unit help, posted new thread for that.

Inside the seat bases, there should be holes in the back corners toward the middle of the boat.

I just took pictures of mine with the water standing in it. I felt for holes, but found none? Can I drill some? I am adding pictures. If you have pictures of the inside or yours showing where the holes are can you post them? Thanks

Mine has a hole at the corner of the back and right walls in your picture. It is drilled horizontally to the right. (not through the bottom of the floor). I'll try to post a picture for you later today.

Definitively do not let water sit in it. I would keep it covered as well. Not only from rain but sunlight too.

Thank you so much for uploading the picture. I will try to fix mine ASAP. I've had it for 3 years and just didn't know where it was safe to add a new hole. It stays covered most of the time, but since the lower unit is off and broken, I had hoped to work on it some. It had just rained last evening and filled that corner back up.

I'm also planning to re-cover some of the seats, I've been redoing them little by little as I can afford - the grays only so far.
If anyone knows where to get the bluegreenish teal vinyl to match a bayliner, I'd love to find a very close match to repair the bow seats and the fold down seats.

Well I finally got my new starter in. Started on first try but cut off after a second or two. A loud noise kept going. Wasn't the overheat alarm. It sounded like an electric motor, but after I finally cut it off by disconnecting the battery, the starter wasn't hot nor the power tilt motor. I saw smoke coming around lower unit, but that might have just been the exhaust. I've been having trouble determining where sounds come from, so I may have to get another person to help me pinpoint it.
