If this area is good what are the chances that it gets worse towards the bow?
Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...
Generally speakin', boats rot from the transom forward...
Don't leave bare wood. Glass over if it's not rotten.
I am going to get into it this week.
I want to mold in a ski/rod compartment in the floor.
Anyone know of any nify prefab compartments/lids or is that a build your own kind of thing.
Most are made with an aluminum frame (Z channel), with a plywood door, you can cover the door with whatever you use on the deck ( floor). Any weld shop can tack up the corners the frame for you.....I've made several of them, very easy.
I got a quote today to do al lthe seats and pads for $1000.00 including materials. marine grade vinyl. Think I am going to take it as I have no sewing skills whatsoever and do not have any of the equipment to do it. This sound reasonable?
Looks like I will have some good weather this week/weekend to get cracking on the deck as well.
If the transom is safe...?
I'd use it this yr the way it is,
gather information and material as you go along then start the project in the fall,
you'll know exactly how to proceed from there and the project will move more quickly.
Taking it on now, at the beginning of the season, without experience? it might not see the water til next yr.
If the rubrail was removed and the cap was off it already then it would make sense to proceed gutting it, but it looks safe for at least a yr or more.
By the end of the season you might be in the mkt for something bigger anyway.
Just another option.
I am contemplating surrender.
Don't surrender. If you can rebuild a Monte Carlo this will be cake. It's not that difficult just a lot of grunt work. It will be worth it. You've got the right order as far as popping the cap off. There also may be some tabs around the cap that are glassed over to also hold the cap on. After church today I will be in the process of removing my cap. Will post pictures later. It will make it a whole lot easier to work on the floor, stringers, and transom. Wish I knew you were in Atlanta. I was just there from Wednesday and got back late last night. Would have loved to have stopped by and looked at your boat.
