Okay, next after a test fit...
P8210938.jpg
I mixed a batch of PB and coated the mating surfaces, pulled all plumbing and wiring through, then set it down in place and weighed it down. This is what it looked like at that point.
P8230940.jpg
The two small strips on either side are where the edges of the seat base overhang the center deck piece. I opted to do the center raised this way so that any water that makes it into the boat has to hit the edge of the center piece and go around it, rather than sweeping right across the hatches (which are not fully water tight).

At this point I gave it another 2 weeks to fully cure because I really didn't want to screw up my final coats of paint, especially as the paint is really expensive!

Re: 1993 17' Center Console Complete Refurbish

Next, I will be painting the entire inside. A little information about my products....I chose to go with Interlux Perfection (2 part polyurethane), over the top of Interlux Epoxy PrimeKote 404/414, with a bit of Interlux Intergrip Non skid compound (more on that later:D). The reason I chose these products is because the first time I repainted I used West Marine brand 1 part polyurethane paint with (heavy grit) non skid already in it. After painting the whole deck and inside walls of the boat, I let it cure a couple of days, and I could scrape it off with my fingernail....so I knew it wouldn't stand up to and anchor hitting it. So I scraped it all off the floor portion of the boat, and used the interlux system on it, and it worked excellent! This, coupled with the fact that the heavy grit in the west marine paint was still on the gunwales to scrape up your knees, made me choose to use the Interlux paints and only use the Intergrip additive where I wanted it, plus the Intergrip is a much finer grit.

So, here it goes.......

After hours and hours of sanding by hand, every nook and crannie...I hosed the boat out and washed it down with soap....then after drying, I wiped the entire inside down with acetone and let sit overnight. The following morning, I Taped and put plastic on everything I didn't want paint on, then I wiped the entire job down with Interlux 2333N Reducing Solvent. Then I mixed the first coat of Epoxy PrimeKote, reduced 10% to give me better working time and maintain a good wet edge. So, I gave her a good coat of primer....

Then after drying overnight, then next morning I gave the entire surface a light hand sanding, blew it out with a blower, then wiped it down again with 2333N, and gave it a second and final coat of primer...

I know they look like the same pictures, but trust me, they aren't

Nope, they don't look the same...you can definitely see the difference between the first and second coats...

Outstanding work!

Good choice of paints. I had a similar experience with Petit Easypoxy....poor adhesion and soft. That's why my recommendation now is pretty much Rustoleum or step up to good 2-part marine paints and skip all the stuff in between.

Okay, after the primer dried overnight, I hand sanded everything, blew it out with blower, wiped down with 2333N, and gave it a full coat of paint....

The paint has a very nice high gloss wet look! It already looked beautiful after 1 coat!

The downside to the paint being very high gloss is that it will also be slippery. I had already planned on using non skid additive on the walking surfaces, but non skid makes it harder to clean. After pondering it in my head, I came up with a very ambitious plan....I was going to put a pattern in my non skid. So I used paper and masking tape cover the areas of the deck that never get walked on, like under seat and console, as well as in the corners like where the deck meets the bulkheads, and around the hatches, anywhere that dirt can gather and be hard to clean. Next I used 1/2" wide automotive masking tape and laid out a 45 degree diagonal pattern....this is how it looked....

I ran out of tape after the 1st photo....that was 2 rolls....so I decided to get 3 more......

Okay...this is starting to get just plain embarrassing for the rest of us amateurs.... I think EZ has you pegged as a closet professional playing a joke on the rest of us. This can't be your first restore. If it is, you really have a talent for this. I anticipate that your PM box is going to start filling up quickly with "Wherdjas" [where did ya get {fill in blank}]... and Howdjas [How did ya {fill in blank})] :)

Okay even after 5 rolls, I stll ran out and ended up just using blue 3/4" masking tape in a diagonal pattern on the very front bow. In some places on the blue tape you can see I used a razor blade to round the corners for a nicer finish. I also put three small strips on the top of the gunwhales on both sides for traction when boarding and docking. I think it came out pretty good....

Okay at this point I have almost $50 in tape and 7 1/2 hours of time invested in masking this pattern...

This is definately my first....but I can't wait for my next. I don't want anyone to be embarrassed at all, and I don't mind answering questions that anyone wants to ask....like I said before I am no professional, but I can always give a "here's what I would do if it were my boat"...

So, next I wiped down lightly with 2333N over the tape, then rubbed the tape down as best as I could with a dry towel, and gave it a coat of paint over the pattern. Then I put the Intergrip Non Skid into a large salt shaker and sprinkled it into the wet paint over the pattern......

The next morning, I peeled the tape. I got 2 basketball size balls of used tape!! Anyways I brushed the surface down with a plastic bristle brush, to knock off excess grit, and blew the whole boat out really good with the blower. Next I wiped it down as best as possible with 2333N, and gave it one final coat of paint over everything.
This is how the final paint job came out.....

The pattern is kind of hard to see in the photos, so this last one is a close up with the reflection behind it...

After painting I let the boat sit 4 days to fully cure......during this time, I stripped down and painted the outboard...

After sanding.....

Not to blow up your thread (even if it with high praise), but I wanted to jump in quickly and be the first to call dibs on copying the non-skid idea. Outstanding!!!

Then I gave it 2 coats of Johnson Evinrude Charcoal Metallic Grey. It took 3 cans, but came out pretty nice. I also put a SE Sport Hydrofoil on it, but didn't get photos until already rigged on the boat.

So here's what it looks like....

No decals yet, but I am getting new ones soon....but for now the blacked out look is nice..

No problem dude!! Thats why I wanted to share it with everybody. I used a speed square and a straight edge, and went 45 degrees both directions starting from the center of the transom....granted mine is flat across...
