I just bought a 1993 191 V islander with the merc 135 it is a boat I have liked for a few years now and found a good deal locally. This is my first Starcraft and cuddy, I will use it for cruising around the lake at sunset but mostly trolling (is turn key for trolling/fishing rod holders and nice downriggers) and think I may sleep in it some night but honestly I probably will never (a nap at best). It's clean needs a little tune up but no solft spots and one Little leak in the cuddy on a window and has a camper top (few stitches starting to go) motor has less then 300 hours (use to have a kicker) and never seen salt water. All I want to do to is it put in a radio and maybe one more light on it for low light, I'm sure I will find more things out once I get it out for more then 3 or 4 hours. Any thoughts on the boat or motor and also things I need to look for? Thanks

Welcome to the Tin Flotilla, afd. She looks like a nice Islander to start your Starcraft obsession. :)

Which M/C 135? Things to look for: leaks of course and do you have any idea when the impeller/ lower unit oil was changed?

Good looking tinnie. Have lots of fun. :D

That boat looks very nice...must have been well taken care of! You are really going to like that motor, if in a good tune they can be gas sippers. It almost looks in the pictures that it has a beaver tail/easytroller??

To answer a few of the reply questions it does have a 3.0 Mercury engine in it and it also has a happy troller trolling plate that I installed that day of the purchase. This week (now that the holiday is over) I sounds like I will get her tuned up!!!! I do have a leak (little one) On the starboard side of the cuddy cabin and l think it may be in the Front window of the boat or possibly on the seam I'm not quite sure how im going to figure this out. Also due to its age some of the stitching holding zipper for the top has started to go so I will fix that some day. And lastly I bought a radio for the old girl. Thanks guys!!!

Well got the old girl cleaned up but can't get it to idle below 8 grand with out running like crap (this is with ear muffs on it) is this ok for the 3.0. Put a little caulk in few places and ready for the rain to stop!!! Also is there only one drain plug on this boat? And also can any one tell me how to use, run, drain the live well? On a nice day I will take few photos of the custom dash the guy made for it, it's nice! Thanks guys!!

afd - Something isn't right if idle is 8000 RPM, muffs or in the water. I'm hoping that's a typo. I hope you meant 800 RPM.

Ya... 8 grand I am pretty sure he wouldn't be talking about it idling poorly... I think the conversation here would be more about where he could find the remains of the motor!

800 rpm is for sure what he meant!! :)

I'm going to go ahead and assume you mean 800 RPM, and it's not the motor that cares about engine idle speed, it's the outdrive. 800 is a bit high. If you need help with troubleshooting, just ask over in the Mercruiser engine repair forum. ;)

P.S. What lake are you on?

Very very sorry! Yes yes 800 and worst case 1000 (that's what I was trying to say) rpm's sorry guys. I'm on Norway lake (where I live) but will travel a bit more, it runs great sips gas but need to slow it down and I do not like the trolling plate (I took it off) maybe a rebuild kit for the carb, drift bags or a better trolling plate..... Did bag a few samon last night trolling at 4 mph! Lol

The 3.0 is a good motor. Has she been sitting awhile? Old gas? Head over to the Mercruiser forum - Those guys will get you fixed up in no time.

Not to be picky, but fishing tales are just tall tales without pics.

Yep, you're RPM's are high. The outdrive doesn't like to be engaged at higher RPM's, as it will start to do damage to the drive. Like I said before, if you need help with diag, post your issue with the serial number in the Mercruiser engine repair section.

P.S. We're on Sebago... :)

I have never been on sebago I have friend who is going to take me threw the locks this year and I can't wait, sadly in just going to have a local guy look at it, I'm very busy and with the boat not at the house maybe I can get some things done before I want to take it out all the time! Haha
