It may be partly due to the skeg being (from the looks of the pics) worked over a bit. I have the exact same boat but a bow rider same engine, drive, helm, guages etc. It looks as though the skeg has hit something at one point and then been re worked a bit. This may not even be the cause but you never know. I love my crownline its been a real solid boat for me so far, I would get on the impeller change as soon as you can though, I do mine every two years weather it needs it or not, just cheap insurance to not cook my engine.
