1994 evinrude not pumping water

ok first let me thank everyone for helping me with my force 150 running great now.....new project working on my father-in-laws evinrude 25 he told me it was not pumping water so first thing i got a pump kit and replaced the pump housing and impellar O-rings and gaskets put the foot back on ran it with the muffs and still did not get any water from the telltale or the two little holes in the mid section any ideas maybe a thermostat or something....

the motor is 1994 evinrude model # e25eerr and it has the copper pickup tube when i blow air thru the tube i get pressure from the tell tale.
i checked to make sure the impeller key was in place you can tell the impeller is spinning just not sending water up?

i've gotten my boat on the water now i want to get the paw-in-law on the water...

could be a therostat if it has one and also make sure impeller blades are in the right direction

Impeller fingers will flip if installed wrong. More likely, water tube isn't in the pump outlet correctly or has missed the pump outlet entirely, grommet has folded over, pump not deep enough if in a barrel, etc. Also, pump must be well sealed to wear plate.

The copper water tube has a fiber washer and a grommet on the top end of it. There is a round hole in the exhaust housing that the tube fits into. Place it in position before putting on the lower unit.

Then carefully raise the lower unit into position. When there is about one inch gap before it is up. Install two bolts on opposite sides from the midsection to the lower unit. Get two screwdrivers, reach into the gap and push the copper tube into the lower grommet. Then bolt her up and test.

Many times people cant get the water tube lined up right and it blows out of the water pump grommet. Hope this helps

i re checked the waterpump took the thermostat out still no water checked and double checked the copper tube still no water????????

i'm still working on it took the thermostat out now i'm gonna put the thermo plate back on....question if i have the lower unit off and put the water muffs on should it force water out or does the impeller stop that?

With the lower end off, try to force water up the copper tube and see if it comes out of the tell tale. You could have a pluggage somewhere in the block.
Don't know about putting muffs on lower unit when it's off the motor.

i just put it back togather still not pumping...this is gonna be the 7th time i've taken it apart. running low on patience with it gonna try the copper tube thing now if that does not work guess i'll have to take it to the shop

One other thing I thought of.

The pump impeller shroud has two pieces of metal. They have to fit into the pump housing correctly. Also the oring has to be in the right place. Put 30 wt oil on the impeller, and it should pump.

Next time down with the lower unit dump it in a bucket of water and spin the shaft with a drill. See if it pumps out then. At least you will know which end has the issue.

no dice.... i'm sure it has to be in the lower unit when i forced water up the copper tube water came out the pee hole and the two holes in the mid section gonna try the oil thing tomorrow....
I will beat this thing if it's the last thing i do......

yeah cofe sugested putting 30 wt oil on the impeller. When i forced water up the copper tube it seemed fine water came out everywhere it should about to remove the lower unit again only takes a few minuets now. my wife talked to a guy at her work he said i should pack the impeller with vasaline to help it prime....or is the vasaline just going to screw me haha no pun intended...

Oil, grease, etc. isn't going to help if the pump is not correctly assembled or any of the parts are scored (pump liner, wear plate). I always assemble pumps dry and have never had a problem, although it won't hurt anything to use a small amount of grease, oil or dish soap. There's something else going on here.

can anyone tell me if i have the lower unit off and i put the water muffs on should water be forced out of the top of the water pump housing? someone told me the impellar may be upside down i looked very carful at it its rubber no special shape but i fliped it anyway but still no water.. as for putting the lower unit in a bucket and spinning it with a drill the shaft is to large for a drill do they make an attachment for that? a friend recommended i just take it to the shop and give up some friend he is

the key is this little wedge looking thing i know it's in there if i hold the shaft i can't spin the impeller. you can tell the impeller is spinning just not pulling water up.

Is the pump body well sealed against the wear plate? Must be tight or pump will not pump.

i put some rtv gasket seal around the outside of the housing to make suse there was a good seal and still no water.......
