Hello to you,
I have a question about my 1995 Honda Civic DX, manual drive transmission not even turning over to start. Today, I went to work and everything was good but after work was over with went to crank it up and nothing no clicking, starting or nothing. I was able to pop the clutch to get it cranked and drove home. I checked the battery with my voltmeter and have 12.88 volts but did not load test it. So I am assuming the battery is good if I have 12.88 volts according to my volt meter, correct? I also took my starter out and had it tested at Advance Auto parts and it tested good. I also cleaned the positive/negative battery terminal and still I do not get anything when turning the ignition key to on. I do press down on the clutch pedal, and still nothing. What can it be. I hope not the ignition switch though because there pricey. Let me know what it could be becuase I am not sure. I did check the 7.5 volt fuse and it was good. :confused:

Bubba,

I just went through this with one of my pickups, and it was the clutch activated neutral safety switch.

Take a look at this thread on the Honda Forum.

How to bypass clutch switch?? - ClubCivic.com - Honda Civic Forum

On my truck, I simply took the switch out, pushed it into the start position reinstalled it and now can start it even when the clutch is not engaged, but you need to make sure it is not in gear or you do have the clutch engaged when you start it, or you will end up looking like an insurance commercial on TV.

:eek:

Either that, or go to a parts store and get a new safety switch and replace yours.

Does it have a switch on the clutch, if the clutch is not down it will not start? (Neutral safety switch)
They go.

I have worked on my Honda Civic DX all day today and have it narrowed down to the Starter Relay. What I did is removed the black plastic cap that houses the coil inside the relay and when I went to start my Honda I had to make the relay work by pressing the metal side of it and my Honda cranked right up every single time. Is it safe to say that the starting relay is bad? I did replace the clutch pedal saftey interlock switch and that did not fix the issue. So what do you think on the relay?

Sounds like you tracked down your problem, if you can manipulate the relay to get it to start, I would bet you would be safe in replacing it.

Re: 1995 Honda Civic DX will not even turn over?

//////UPDATE/////
My Honda Civic DX is fixed and starting beautifully now. What it ended up being is something, plastic/rubber, must have broke off and fallen off the upper clutch pedal assembly where it strikes the end of the clutch pedal safety interlock switch plunger. Basically whatever fell off of it left a small hole and whenever you went to press down the clutch pedal the saftey switch would never get its plunger pushed in and that was keeping/preventing the switch to allow the voltage to pass to the starter solenoid to allow the starter motor to turn the engine over to crank it. So what I did this morning is removed the entire clutch pedal assembly and installed a bolt, washer, and self locking nut to fill that small hole so the switch can do its thing in allowing power to the starter solenoid to allow the starter motor to turn to crank the motor. So all is good and I am happy. The bad part is I spent my entire Saturday trying to figure out/pinpoint what was wrong with it which I did and spent a few hours today, Sunday, fixing what I found on Saturday.

I had the starter relay go bad in one of my cars (automatic) and went through the same things you did. So mine was a little easier in the end. I would have jumpered around the clutch switch if I was the only driver. Sorry about the the weekend.
