I have a 3.0l 140 hp .. The current prop is a hustler 14 1/4 - 19 pitch alluminum . I was using it this weekend skiing and tubing it took a while took get to plane and level off rpm was low . I would like to improve on it and find a way took get it to plane faster . would a diiferent prop or a hydrofoil help this ? any info appreciated especially from people that have dealt with these problems . curious what some have found helped the most .

We need to know how big a boat it is, and your average maximum rpm with the prop you have.

We need the max rpm and speed with a light load.rpm should be around 4,600 lightly loaded.I think the best solution to improve hole shot is trim tabs.
or smart tabs. These improve hole shot, stabilize ride, stay on plane with less power and combat no wake speed wander.Smart tabs are passive and cost less.Have excellent factory support. The Hustler is an excellent prop but at 19" may be too much for skiing especially with a load.

The ratio is 1.98 its a alpha one gen2 . I took it out again max rpm says 2200 . I just replaced gauges cause my old ones where cracked . I dont think rpm is reading correctly motor sounds wide open and is moving along pretty good . I am not sure why they read 2200 It sounds higher like 4400 . I will have to figure out the rpm problem before I can give better info . to give some background on the boat I just had the motor rebuilt and am using it after sitting several years . OHH YES ....... a PROJECT BOAT FOR HARRY HOMEOWNER ! Unfortunately for me I am Harry .

Knowing the type of boat, the size, & the prop size, that 19" pitch is a common prop size for your boat, from what I've learned here on the forum. Alot of guys with similar boats use a 17" pitch 4 blade aluminum prop as a spare, for extra hole shot with water sports, or an extra load. That is also if you are now running in the propper range of rpm 4400-4800 I believe, make sure your tach is right, & your rpm is right first.

Or, as an alternative, you can get Smart tabs (if you don't have them already?), and use your existing prop

Re: 1995 maxum !! help finding correct ski prop !!

I am calling faria tommorow to see what they have to say about my tach readings . I had stock maxum gauges and put the faria kit in the boat and either they are working fine and its 2200 rpm or I need to do something to fix them " not sure " ! I do know when I hit throttle rpm moves and Idle rpm seems fine . boat is not good getting on plane is it possible 2200 is correct ? if I had the wrong prop could it be that far off ? just for some background on this boat . I just finished putting in a rebuilt motor in it and I am using it for the first time !

Make sure your tach is set to the right number for your engine, with the settings on the back.

The gear ratio is 1.84 .............not 1.98 I had to change the upper gearcase apparently I purchased the wrong one . looks like 2200 rpm would be correct . what are some options . buy the inner gears and change ratio ,different prop , or find someone who would swap . AHH will I EVER finish .
