I have a 96 7.4l gen v that died on me. I narrowed the problem down to the fuel pump. Which is the type that is mounted to the top of the raw water pump. When I removed the fuel pump to replace it, the inside of the raw water pump where the fuel pump arm rides the cam was bone dry and there was some sludge in there that looks to have been there a while. The cam or whatever is in there spun freely on the shaft with my finger and I was also able to move it left to right. When i cranked the engine, it did also spin with the shaft but I'm not sticking My finger in there to see if it is just spinning loosly on the shaft. My question, is this normal for it to spin without the shaft spinning or is that a sure sign that the pump is bad and maybe even the cause of the fuel pump not pumping fuel? Thanks for any insight.
