1996 bayliner 1850ss project with several small patches of rot

I just bought a project boat and have been looking trough this site for answers and can't find anyone with quite the same problem. I haven't ripped the carpet up yet to see, but i have two small...maybe 6 to 10" soft spots right infront of the bench seat. Can i repair just these bad areas or do I need to replace the whole floor? How do i start...just start cut out a square of rotten wood? Everywhere else seems good and solid.

If you can see already that it has rot in 6 spots on the deck, then its pretty much a given theat everything else has rot in it as well. You need to rip up the whole deck and inspect the stringers and transom.

it is possible that you just repair the soft areas.....however.....im betting that when you rip up the soft spots.....you will see a lot more than you think.

Just what I have been waiting on, a guy to show up here with an SS bayliner. I would also like to see pics of your boat, especially the bench seat, Im gonna be building one in my bayliner.

If you wanted to just replace that part of the floor, it wouldnt be hard at all.

Bobcarter is still reading that sea ray rebuild then the you tube videos. Might take him a week to get back to us once he is finished all of that.

Sorry its taken me so long. I actually only have about two small spots in front of the rear bench thats rotten...at least that I know about. The bench seat probably will need to be rebuilt too...not terrible...but I want it right. My plan is to use the boat one last time before winter and then pull to carpet to see what I've got. I know I need new upholstery too...but I'm gonna wait to see how bad the floors hit me. I'll be sure and get some pics then. I just put a new prop on 21 pitch, that I'm gonna try this weekend. The guy had a 19 pitch prop that would redline at 5800rpm all day long...which i did not like.

Got it out on the water one last time. Now its time to rip up the carpet. Assuming I do have to rip up most of the main floor...I have a few questions. Is the basic repair, cut out floor, coat new pieces on both sides with epoxy, install, fiberglass over? I dont know much about fiberglassing the floor. what purpose does it serve? If I leave several inches of the floor intact around the perimeter...how do i attach the new and old together? What supports the new wood around the edges? What epoxy do you recommend?

Also, if I used Okoume marine lumber...isn't it already coated and therefore ready to be installed?

If you plan on keeping the boat for a long time then just redo the entire deck, It's not that tuff. Drill test that transom and stringers just to be safe.
