I have just aquired a 1996 Johnson 60hp outboard. The oil injection has been removed from motor previously. The oil inlet below the fuel hook up on motor is plugged, the 2 wires (brown and black) have been disconnected (I am guessing these are the wires from the oil tank I have been reading about) I have read that I need to disconnect the no oil warning buzzer from the pump. Where do I disconnect this buzzer, the pump looks to have 4 wires (brown, black, purple and grey) Which one controls this buzzer. I have also read about being careful not to disconnect the overheat buzzer. Any help would be appreciated.

The wire harness from the pump should be plugged into the main wiring harness. Just unplug it.

This pump does not control any fuel flow? Fuel line looks to be running into same pump. Will unplugging this harness alter any other function on motor (fuel, overheat buzzer, etc. )

No.Disconnecting the harnes from the vro pump wil simply disable the vro alarms. The vro pump is a duel purpose unit composed of an oil section and a fuel section that discharge into a common line. The pump is driven by crankcase pressure pulses via a hose.

Once the vro harness is disconnected you can test the overheat circuit by turning the ignition key to the 'on' position while grounding the tan lead from the overheat sensor which is located above the top cylinder near the thermostat housing, and listening for the alarm to sound.
