1997 Evinrude 200 Lower Unit Disassembly

My manual (and the youtube videos) say that my shifting housing and bearing should come out when I get my prop shaft out. Mine did not come out. What did I do wrong and what do I need to do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Is the driveshaft out.-----------Did you push the unit into reverse before removing the shift rod ?

Give the lower unit a good bump on a work bench and that shift housing should fall out.----If it is damaged in some way it may be a different story.---Sounds like the shifter fork and cradle were damaged in order for the propshaft to come out without that housing !

Still no luck. I have an older lower unit that will work if I change the shift shaft. Think I will give up and give that a try!
