Hi All, I recently converted a 1997 Mariner 175 from EFI to carbs and premix. Why, well the previous owner of the motor had issues with it running and I didn't want to deal with the entire EFI chain, so I went with something I know. Anywho, I got it running and seems to idle high with what I think is a different sound, maybe needing timing done? I've uploaded a youtube video showing it running. It's a little smoky as I started to fog the motor for winter. Does this sound like a good running motor? Compression is even across all cylinders.

Probably needs a Link and Sync at the very least. What carbs did you use?

They're matching year carbs, but upon further research, it looks they are carbs that were from a 150. I would think that'd only drop my HP down to a 150 though and not impact operation? Do you have a good reference for link and sync with this model of motor?

They may also meter fuel differently at off idle speeds, certainly there will be differences as to when the main circuit starts flowing fuel, in addition of flow restriction at WOT. How the different Exhaust Tuning differences between the engines affected the Fuel Mixtures Calibrations, is another Kettle of Fish
Because of differences in the Air-Fuel Delivery Curve between carbs calibrated for one engine, then used on an other, the stock Pickup Timing(s) from either engine, may not be suitable for the new combo

It will run a lot better with the bleed lines installed instead of the EFI bleed system....

This is a good point, can I not use existing bleed lines? I used existing ones as they appeared to line up with the carb intake but I ended up with an extra one at top that has some sort of filter on it? While it was running oil was spewing out of it. Any idea where that connects?

I pulled up the bleed line diagram for the carbed engine and I'll go off that. I had noticed a couple blocked ports on the block. Do you think I did any damage with the EFI bleed system on? I only ran for about 5-10 minutes and started spraying fogging oil after 5 mins. Thanks for the catch!

you need to verify they are at least XR6 carbs and not tha 2.0 150.... wmh or wmv?

Not sure, I know the part number on the carb is 3326-828272T46-C. I also saw the top middle jets are 0.082 and the top left jets are 0.044 which leads me to believe they're XR6 carbs?

that jettin' you mention are consistent with xr6 wmv 3's...……….

WMV 3/3A 1–2–3
1996-1998 XR-6 MAG III
1.312 venture
.074 main
idle air 1,2,3,4,6=.044 5=.048
vent .082

WMV 4/4A 1-2-3...
175
1.312 venture
.078 main
1,2,3,4,6=.030 5=.034
vent .086

other than jettin' tha 4's are same.. if you so chose?.. I would change tha mains only and run it...………..jmo

Thanks Dukedog! Would I need to change the mains to 0.078 to prevent a lean condition? Also, do I need to alter the timing?

Dukedog, I've decided to sell the motor but I hadn't changed to 0.078 mains yet, (winterized motor before changing). I'd like to save some money and not buy the larger mains. Am I ok to sell a 175 motor with XR6 WMV-3 carbs? I've read on a couple other forums where others haven't had any issues with running XR6 carbs on a 200 HP model for instance. Is there any risk for the future next owner in terms of burning up a piston, etc? Thanks for all your info!
