Looking for tips to troubleshoot a problem I have with my 1998 Mariner 40 tiller motor with power trim and tilt...
As it is now, the trim / tilt switch on the engine or tiller handle only moves the motor down. When I press up, the relay clicks, power goes to the trim motor, but nothing happens.
When I reverse the wires going to the trim/tilt motor, the switch still only operates when pressing down, but the motor goes up. The same occurs when I use the trim switch on the tiller.
I have confirmed that power is going to the trim motor, whether the switch is pressed up or down - the voltages are identical, about 12.6V.
I have replaced the original trim motor with a new aftermarket unit, one relay, fuse and have confirmed that the wiring to and from the switches, both on the motor cowling and on the tiller handle, are connected correctly.
I have removed the cowl switch from the circuit to see how that affects it, and the result is the same.
At this point, I am out of ideas and would appreciate any tips you can give.
Thanks.
