I would take a look at All Dodges question(post #18) as the way you move the mounts is inverse to what you think. If you had more grease on the alignment witness marks say on the bottom, you actually want to move the mounts up to put the coupler down. Is it possibel you are moving the mounts the opposite fo the way you want to go?did not spin, just searching for other alignment causes
Do you have an alignment bar?put the old shaft trough bearing, found gap starboard side and a little towards the top
1999 and wood is good? Amazing and a keeper!!!! I can speak from personal experience, that is not usually the case for older boats, and if you removed motor you may have dislodged back motor mount or components, as I did, and you will never get motor to align. Make sure components are not laying in bilge. Mine were! If not and I understand you correctly, you ran motor/OD w/o being perfectly aligned. You may have damaged something or former owner damaged parts. As others have implied or recommended, pull OD and carefully examine shaft, bearing, u-joints, etc. Examine gimbal bearing for smoothness. I assume that your OD's has grease fitting to grease gimbal? If you installed Gimbal incorrectly, eventually it will cause problems. Your coupler may be damaged or worn beyond specs, as well and causing slop and vibration. That will require pulling motor again and replacing coupler. Been there! Good luck!wood is all good, 3M 4000 it is thanks.
