The ring gear needs to be replaced on that flywheel.

Can a flywheel for the same motor out of a truck work? I think I read the only difference is that they spray it with something. Could I spray it with whatever that is myself or would a flywheel straight from a Chevy s10 work

The flywheel is probably ok. The ring gear is a separate piece that is swedged on. A ring gear is available via automotive parts houses, you just need to match the number of teeth on it.

The ring gear is heated then placed around the flywheel, and when it cools it stays attached, that is "swedging".

Removal is a little different, usually the old one is chiseled in one spot until it breaks and falls off.

is it possible to do this without removing the entire engine? and if I have to remove the engine how long would it take/ how difficult would it be given I have never done that before.

The flywheel has to come off the engine first, and I am sure there is no clearance to get at it while the engine is in the boat.

thanks for the info guys. Today I tightened it to 45 foot pounds and it did seem to work better (Once spinning it would not stop on the spot i previously identified as where the teeth were bad. and it started with some ether in the carb), however not 100%. After putting some ether into the carborator she started and then puttered out. After priming it and everything it would not stay on. What is the best way to check the fuel pump. or what else could be the issue. thanks!

Disconnect the fuel line from the top of the fuel pump. Connect a clear hose and jump the relay. If the fuel pump is good you should see it pumping fuel. Make sure it does not have excessive air in the line when its pumping.

Is there a step by step guide to pulling the engine on this four winns? I have access to a forklift and think that could be useful to pull it out, but would love to be pointed to a step by step guide on what to detach and in what order and such. Any guidance is appreciated, and what sort of time commitment am I looking at? Thanks in advance.
