It is connected at the wiring harness, and you should have system check.

The plug for a system check tach has 8 contacts running out of your wiring harness to the 8 points on the tachometer plug.

If you are connecting something else, please describe the tach, remote control, and the wiring harness; maybe we can help.

Actually I want to disconnect it to eliminate or verify that this is where I'm getting interference on a new sonar unit I recently installed.

Kevin, The tach sender wire is grey. You will find it on the motor, connected to the water cooled voltage rectifier on top of the cylinders, behind the flywheel. You may be able to pull it out of the connector, to run your test. Alternatively you can disconnect the whole V/R and run your test.

And if I disconnect that will the engine still crank/run?

Thanks for the info, I will try that.
