I have a 1999 Johnson 90 with OIS. I believe that it is not getting any spark...
History-- I had an issue last year with the engine cutting out. I took it to a licensed dealer and dropped $1800 in repairs. I believe that they replaced CDI and Coils as they all look new. After that, it ran great all summer. This year, I cleaned the boat and started it on muffs. Sprayed cleaner on engine etc. and hosed it all off. Again, it was running fine. Son took the boat out on it's maiden voyage this year... he said that it ran fine for about 5 mins and died. Engine will turn over, but no fire. (and yes, I made sure that the kill lanyard was installed
I believe that it is a spark issue. I sprayed starting fluid in the cylinders and nothing seemed to ignite when cranking the engine. I pulled the ignition switch and removed the black/yellow wire and still no fire.
I don't mind working on this myself, but I don't want to just replace parts for the sake of replacing. Any help on diagnostics is appreciated. Please be detailed... I will need wire colors, pictures, detailed instructions.
Note: I don't know if this was correct, but I pulled the orange wire from the coil and did an ohm check from wire to ground and it was around 20 (using an analog meter...can't find my digital one
. I also read that I should check from one spark plug wire to the opposing one on the same coil and that gave full needle deflection. ???
Thanks in advance.
