I recently bought a 1999 mariah that sunk in salt water, was pickled, carb rebuilt, lower unit oil drained and started up again. I was told by a few members that I should expect th replace gimble bearings and u-joints? My Uncle thinks that the gimble and u-joints should be fine, since they are greased. Any other opinions?

Ayuh,.....

Even If everything is still in Perfect working order,...

You're going to need the Gasket Set to reinstall the drive....

It is not a difficult job - and should be routine maintenance every year

A Mercruiser workshop manual would be a good thing to have for this and other jobs

I removed my first i/o drive 3 years ago - had read the manual and prepared everything - is`s a piece of cake - can remove my drive in 10 minutes today - and reinstall it in another 10 minuttes

You guys have me all excited. I always look forward to a new challenge. I am sitting at work in a fire station working the back half of a 48 hr shift. I whish I was home. Tomorrow is going to be fun. I am going to try to get her running. i still don't have a fuel pump, but i plan to gravity feed it like the guy who i bought it from did. I am also going to put a new ign switch in it, he didn't even go this far, jumped it across teh solenoid. Maybe it will work on a switch. Oil has been changed.

you may want to get yourself an alignment bar too while you have the drive out check the alignment before re installing
