1999 opti max,,problem

i have a 99 200 hp optimax...started to hesitate when giving full throttle,,then it would get on plane,,,changed plugs and it quit doing it,,then after a couple months it stared again,,you can give it full throttle and it goes to about 2000rpm then after anywhere from 10 to 20 seconds it picks up and planes out,,,also it has a miss when idle,,,,so far mechanic finds nothing,,no faults,,put new 1000cca battery,,new bulb on fuel line,,looks like its going to be a hit and miss at shop,,keep trying different things,,,next he is going to pull plugs to see if there is any differnces in any of them to see if any one cylinder is the problem....any ideas??? anything? has anyone experinced this same problem? also drained gas and put new no ethonol gas in,,and merc cleaner

Did you resolve this? My father in law has similar issues with his 1999 Optimax 135...

No it has not been fixed,,,have replaced throtle pos. sensor,,fuel pump diaphram,,two injecters, spark plugs...another throtle type sensor button...my mechanic is bafled,,,each thing we did helped but only temporary,,if you find anything out please let me know,,gregt311@hotmail.com

Father in law is still having issues with his 99 Optimax 135, too. I suspect the fuel lines are gummed up from ethanol gax exposure, have you replaced yours or discussed this with a mechanic? This boat has been in the shop 50 days just this year.

50 days in the shop...thats about right for an Optimax. Mercury builds them but can not figure out how to fix them. As it's still under warranty run it till it blows and let Mercury replace it. Only takes 3 to 4 hours to change it out so you've got 49 days, 20 hours more tine on the water.

Find out if this shop has the CDS. He should be able to do a simple ignition load test while riding the boat. My guess is you have one or more bad ignition coils. They have been problematic from time to time.

replace the 40psi check valve on return fuel line between fuel rail and vst...mine is now running great

Ive had what sounds like similar problems with a 1999 225 merc....motor will run like a bat out f hell for about 20 minutes. ill be up on plane at about 4500 rpms then it will start kicking up and down to where it wont go above 3000 rpms. Ive tried draining my fuel and having the tank cleaned replacing fuel lines and filters still nothing. took it to a shop they worked on it for a week and said it was good within 20 minutes on the water it **** the bed AGAIN.
