1st time using muffs....is it working?

Volvo Penta 5.0GL with SX outdrive.

I ruined the impeller because I ran the motor outside of the water.
I installed a new impeller and bought muffs.

I ran the water first then started the motor. How do I know that it is working?
The temperature gauge was well under 150 degrees for 10 minutes.

I typically use a bungee cord to aid in keeping the muffs in place, turn the water on full, start the engine.
you should see water from the idle relief ports and the prop hub in less than 30 seconds,unless someone changed from water through the outdrive to a thru hull pickup.

Then you are going to need another impeller and a Fake-A-Lake.

Exactly! I see those ports now and it's working. Thank goodness! Water is flowing out of those ports.

So it's good to take the boat out onto the water now?
