1989 Mercury Black Max, S/n OC199873 Model 1200422GD on a 1989 Renker.
Assumption is 1989 as the boat is 1989.

The throttle when pushed slowly forward, increased the speed slightly, and at a certian point, takes off ,and planes. We are able to get about 5200 rpm, and engine sounds great. Is this maybe a linkage problem or a low rpm carb problem?

Second problem is Tilt and Trim. It will go down and not up. If we switch the wires on the engine, then the opposite. Is this a relay or a switch? It does the same from the throttle, or the engine tilt buttons. I am kinda thinking a relay.

THanks,

Mike

Re: 2 problems

Which wires are you switching at the engine? The small switch wires or the large tim motor wires? Small, switch. Large, relay.

The acceleration problem could be switchbox, stator, or carb(s). If you have spark on all six at idle, carb(s).

Mr. Wright

We switched the wires on the back side of the engine.

I suspect linkage or caarb problems for the other problem.
Thanks for the feed back.
