Help Please, I have been reading these fourms for days.

The motor is a 1999 Johnson 200, I dont know the history of this motor. It came on the 24WA Wellcraft I bought used.

It just wont idle right. It fires right up and runs great at all speeds above Idle. Sometimes it will idle for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes but sooner or later it will stall. It sounds like it is idling good and then it will cough and die. It will start right up after stall. If I pump the prime ball it seems to help a little sometimes. It does this in neutral and in gear.

I am thinking it is a fuel problem. This is a VRO motor that the VRO pump has been disconnected. I have tested spark and have good spark on all cylinders after replacing the shift switch interrupt. I have decarbed the motor and checked all hoses and fittings. Everything looks good.

Could my fuel pump be bad and the motor still run so good above idle. Maybe at higher rpms the motor creates more suction and does not need the pump so much? Can I use new fuel pump without the vro pump? How hard is it to rebuild the vro pump.

Next the Carbs, they all look good, and clean. The hoses all look in good shape. I dont see any fuel leaking out anywhere. Are the butterflies supposed to be closed all the way at idle? The throttle has to be moved forward pretty far before the even start to open. How hard is it to rebuild the carbs, do you have to adjust the linkage after rebuild? Do you have any info on how to rebuild them? Do the rebuild kits come with detailed instructions?

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Jim
