I have a 2000 175 hp Ficht with 130 hours on it and blew #4 cylinder recently. Prior to blowing motor would spitter and sput after runing a while. When I stopped and waited a few moments then recraked the motor it would run good for a while again and then repeat problem. Later in the day after fishing for a while on the trolling motor when I cranked the engine it was slow to get on plane but would all of a sudden kick in and go. After traveling a short distance the motor would die. After the second time this happend and I went to crank the motor I heard the knock. The motor has 130 hours on it and the mechanic told me the computer showed it had over heated 27 times. The alarm has never went off on this motor. What could have caused the over heating? I suppose the over heating caused the failure of #4 cylinder. My extended warranty would not cover the repair as it was said to be caused by pre-ignition. If I just replace the piston this problem may reoccur if I can't determine the cause of pre-ignition.
