I would appreciate some very sound and knowledgeable information about the Ficht engine. The positives as well as the negatives. I am looking for the truth's about the engine, not the version that I get from a salesman. The engine I can get is new, has the water cooled computer, comes with a 2 year mfg's warranty, price of $8500.

Voo Doo ! ! ! Stay away from it unless it was made from Bombabier. Do not buy anything made by Johnson/ Evinrude that year. What are they given you for a warranty, 2 years ??? N/G More then likely it will go GA BOOM and I mean GA BOOOOOM! ! !
You can buy a new one for about $11,000.00 with a three year warranty.
And if you wait long enough for a boat show you may be able to get the three year plus an extended warranty for another 3-4 years absolutely free. GO THE DISTACE Buy NEW. " Sorry about the capital letters", I'm trying to make a point.

Always buy the 1st half and sell the 2nd half. You seem like a smart person, so you should know what I mean. If not I will tell you.

Update: Don't be a fool. Go to www.evinrude.com or johnson they are giving you seven years on a new ficht. Look into the e-tech version also.

I just had my '98 175 Johnson ficht that gave my perfect service since I got in in 2000, blow up! Dealer tells me $2500 to repair. It had low hours and I take great care of all my equipment. I wouldn't even be so mad about nobody wanting to help with the repair (dealer, manufacturer) but If bombardier does not want to stand by the "Johnson" name, why is the name Johnson still on the side of their motors? Run away!

Re: 2000 model EVINRUDE FICHT 150HP

The '98 and '99 150 was troublesome and gave OMC a bad reputation on their early FICHTS. In 2000, the FICHT was re-engineered, called FICHT Ram, and worked a lot better. Bombardier, who took over OMC in 2001, will warranty NEW 2000 and later FICHT outboards because of these improvements.

As was posted previously, look around for deals on new 2003 and 2004 FICHTS first as they have a limited time promotion giving 7 years of warranty with them. go to www.evinrude.com for more info.

partsagogo,

IMHO, the pre Bombardier "Fichts" were questionable. The higher HP versions seemed to fare better.

Don't expect one company to take up the warranty issues of another bankrupt company. That is not fair.

I was informed today by a very highly accomplished dealer with bombardier that there are still some issues with injectors on 2001 models-doesn't mean their bad, just one item-issue.
I was also told if I had to pick from 2001-2003, if they were all new, had the same warranty, and cost was the same, take the 03'....they felt the bugs were covered, as in gone.

I have a 2000 Ficht 150 that I bought new in 2000, I have about 400hrs. on it and have never had a single problem. 400 is not that many hours,I know, but I think it is a pretty good motor and has always treated me well. Anyway it is up for sale so I guess I'll never know if it blows or not. Good Luck.

When I bought my used 2000 225 ficht in 20002 that went ga boooom Bombardier was giving one extra year on the old 2year warranty. And they did honor it by giving me a brand new power head at no cost and imediately traded in for a 2003

Walleyehed,

There are no issues with 2001 injectors, I'm surprised a knowledgable tech would say that there were problems. The '99 & 2000 200-225hp FICHTS had a recall for the injector retainers, but the '01 models have the larger 3.3L cylinder block. The Bombardier built engines use the same injectors.

Bombardier took over production on the 2002 and later motors and they are next to bulletproof. Any of the Bombardier built engines are absolutely great.

Re: 2000 model EVINRUDE FICHT 150HP

seahorse, they didn't "say" there was a problem...they showed it to me. It was an early production 2001 with a weak retainer that was replaced fairly quickly in production, but apparently some made it out the door with the inferior retainers. They showed me the ones that "were" on it, and I looked at the engine with the "newer" retainers installed. The Dillon dealership is on a first name basis with the Bomb because of constant testing at there facility, and I truely believe they are finding "some" problems that are being fixed before most dealers get any service info, or are even made aware of the problem if they get it caught before mass production begins, but they said they had modified 5 2001 production engines with new retainers that made it through.

EDIT: And yes, I believe now there are no issues with 2001 injectors, and I was told there were very few of these engines with this problem, as he thought maybe 20-25 had the different retainers, and most, according to Bombardier, had been taken care of by them as they showed up.
This is what Dillon's tech told me.
