Re: 2002 9.9 main bearing colors?
Spray welded!!! Now you are talking. I have considered that, but was not sure if it would hold.
So, what RPMs is that motor good for? Please post back the max RPMs, and PLEASE post back the results of the spray welding, including the process details, if you don't mind. The 70s I am working on will hit 5k, so I am unsure of the ability of a spray weld to hold.
I am gonna do it tho, one day....
I think the crank is chucked into a fixture that turns it, then it is heated, then spray welded, then ground back down to size.
Let me know about the hardening...does the spray welding destroy that?
Gotta know these things!!!
Thanks.
Oh, and usually the existing paint marks are gone from the bearing, or so discolored that you cannot tell what it was originally.
Find the codes on the block yet? On the crank, they are on one of the counterweights. You will have a line of codes for each main bearing (3?), and a line for each rod bearing (2). They indicate the exact size of the journal. On the block, they indicate the exact size of the opening where the crank sits (saddle) of the block when assembled.
