2003 150 MercOptiMax Overheating Alarm

The temp alarm sounds at idle and low RPM. There is a good stream coming out. But if you accelerate quickly there is no alarm and you can ride all day from mid rpms to Wide Open Throttle with not the first alarm. we've replaced the impeller and then checked it yesterday, reassembled, ran out to the lake and it still does it. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the strainer on port side of exhaust plate as if restricted it will cause air compressor to run hot and trigger a hot alarm

No its at base of powerhead, see attached link part # 8...

i just found out that its a 2005 not and 03 does that make any difference??

ok got the screen off but there wasnt much buildup. It didnt look like enough to make the alarm go off. is there anything else that would make the temp alarm go off?
