When i pull the lower unit in the fall I replace the water pump as it broke up while running in on muffs. I have since replaced thermos, water pump, seals in the lower and vacuum and pressure tested it. Now I want to reinstall it. I have attached a image of the water tube inside the mid section. To me this looks like the inside of the old water pump seal and the extension that comes in the water pump kit. I can move the extension in this image up and down. Do need to remove that rubber and pull that plastic down before installing the new pump and extension? I cant remember what came out when i remove the lower in the fall. I think this water tube should be bare when reinstalling.

Thanks!

Thank you, I have a Selco manual. Number 42 in your diagram came with the new pump but it was already inside the housing. My image, i believe the old one from the old housing (42 & 50) is what is stuck on the water tube. I wanted to be sure because when i pulled on it the other day it was hard to get off. I didnt really try to take off with any force because i was not sure. Thanks man i appreciate it. I had a similar issue with my older inline 6 a while back. Now i know when removing the lower unit sometimes those items will hang back and need to be removed.
