Hello out there!!
I have a '03 EFI 150 and seem to be having some issues with it. When I took it out for the first time this year, I noticed it wasn't peeing out the hole and the solid alarm went off for a few seconds while at the dock. I thought the impeller may be stuck, so I tapped on that area of the lower unit, but it back down in the water and after I revved it up a few times, it started peeing again.

After we were out for a while, the alarm started going off again, steady. It seemed to still be peeing though. We weren't far fom the ramp so I made it back at low RPM's with no alarm sounding.

Brings me to this weekend. I changed out the impeller, changed the lower unit fluid and ran it on the muffs in the driveway for several minutes. It seemed to be peeing just fine after a few minutes and really came out with a few revs of the throttle. I also changed the spark plugs. They didn't have the NGK's that came with the motor, so I got equivalent Autolites and put them in, gapped at .040.

We tried to put it on the lake yesterday and after a few seconds, the alarm was sounding, engine smoking and it seemed like it was only running on three cyliders!!

I put the old plugs back in and it started right up, sounds great but after a few minutes of running on the muffs, the alarm is sounding with four tones, not the long steady one of before.

I changed the fuel/ water seperator, thinking there may be water in the fuel. I also pumped out about 6 gallons from the tank, but it doesn't seem like there's any water in that fuel. I also use Stabil and I tried another fuel/ water drying product as well.

The main oil tank is full, but the small one on the motor seems like it's only about 3/4 full. I don't have any oil to fill it until AM. Could that small tank cause this alarm? Or what else should I be looking at?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Loosen the cap on the small tank on the engine and see if it fills up w/oil. If it does fill, the retighten just enough so it doen't leak. If the alrm still goes off, trace the electrical lines coming out the tank, you should find a bullet type connector, disconnet the blue wire, should stop the beeping and if it does then the sender in the cap would be suspect. The sender in the cap is nothing more than a magnet pick-up type sender.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I filled up the small engine tank and the alarm no longer sounds. I let it run for five minutes with the muffs and it sounds fine. I just waorry now abnout why the small wasn't full when the big tank is!!

Did you loosen the cap and see if oil would pump into the tank? The oil from the 2+ gal tank on the boat pressure feeds that tank. If you follow the lines, you will see that one goes to the lower starboad side of the block. This where the pressure comes from. There is a 2 psi check valve there and it is designed to bleed off the pressure in the large tank after the motor has turned off.
Make sure the large tank is holding presure. Then it should push oil to to samll tank.
