Hello out there!!
I have a '03 EFI 150 and seem to be having some issues with it. When I took it out for the first time this year, I noticed it wasn't peeing out the hole and the solid alarm went off for a few seconds while at the dock. I thought the impeller may be stuck, so I tapped on that area of the lower unit, but it back down in the water and after I revved it up a few times, it started peeing again.
After we were out for a while, the alarm started going off again, steady. It seemed to still be peeing though. We weren't far fom the ramp so I made it back at low RPM's with no alarm sounding.
Brings me to this weekend. I changed out the impeller, changed the lower unit fluid and ran it on the muffs in the driveway for several minutes. It seemed to be peeing just fine after a few minutes and really came out with a few revs of the throttle. I also changed the spark plugs. They didn't have the NGK's that came with the motor, so I got equivalent Autolites and put them in, gapped at .040.
We tried to put it on the lake yesterday and after a few seconds, the alarm was sounding, engine smoking and it seemed like it was only running on three cyliders!!
I put the old plugs back in and it started right up, sounds great but after a few minutes of running on the muffs, the alarm is sounding with four tones, not the long steady one of before.
I changed the fuel/ water seperator, thinking there may be water in the fuel. I also pumped out about 6 gallons from the tank, but it doesn't seem like there's any water in that fuel. I also use Stabil and I tried another fuel/ water drying product as well.
The main oil tank is full, but the small one on the motor seems like it's only about 3/4 full. I don't have any oil to fill it until AM. Could that small tank cause this alarm? Or what else should I be looking at?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John
