Does that sound about right?

Sounds good to me! I used wax only in my final layer of gel.

ok how many layers of 1708 did you put down just one and severl layers of resin? and then you did the 3 layers if gel and added wax to the last.
im going to go reread your post and try to figure exactly how to do it

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

So I had an 8x5'6" deck.. I precoated everything, then one layer of 1708 on top and one on bottom. It would bond better if I used CSM to back it. Use a rollen with a small nap, 1/4" or so. Then I did gel, waited for it to tack, gel, then gel + wax

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

alright i see my deck that i have pulled up right now is 8x6 but since i will be doing the gas tank area i would expand that to about 11ft long but there is a two foot gap because of the engine see below
View attachment 117190
the tank areas i would see as 3x2 squared since there are two of them so the total sq footage would be 66 feet for the top i added some in there for extra how much resin would you say you used per sq ft of 1708?
Once again thanks for all your help

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

So, a qt. 32 oz of Poly (you're using the 435 marine grade, you can use 404 too, it's a better resin but more $$) will wet out 38" by 1 yd. of 1708, according to USC. DOn't over saturate...

Get that pic workin!

Also, remember, you wnat to do as much in one piece as you can. I did mine port-starboard layups and have 1" of overlap and sanded the seams.. I used 4 sheets total

so just out of curiosity what is the purpose of the gel coat can it be skiped or does it add extra sealing or strength

It can be skipped. I didnt wnat carpet so it was my nice looking final layer. It also adds a water repellant factor. Many people don't do it. I like how it looks and feels. But you can sue carpet or paint or whatever you want

ok so i can skip that extra 45 dollars and put carpet down a lil later i just want it to have a solid floor and be out on the water b4 new years i will continue redoing the interior and things after its on the water atleast once. so in your opinion for a 19 ft tri hull and 140 I/O plus trailer was it worth the 600 spent on it. cause all that it needed was just to redo the floor and fix the spark issue.

A good running motor and outdrive is worth that... Add a mostly solid hull... Yes you spent your $600 wisely.Well that's IF you get that spark problem figured out. Glad to hear you didn't have any rot under the deck... With a deck that bad it's a miracle.... Just wish I could say I only paid $600 for mine.

well the guy wanted 800 but i had seen him drop it form over 2000 for about a month so i called him and he said nobody would come and look at it (he lived in a lil hick town that no one could find not even cell signal) so he was as long as i showed up he would take 600. worked out for both of us and i think i figured out the spark but its been raining all day and will continue untill tuesday (of course thru both my days off:()

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

Oh i know he will be an extreamly lot of help but the problem is for an 85 year old man he is still driving 18 wheelers and he loves it. he just doesnt get home till the weekends and like today he might get home around 2 but he will leave monday night so. but atleast i can use his truck so i can splash test the hull and check for leaks and do a motor trial all will be good if the rain ever stops
p.s. Thanks for those words of courage

Great to hear Granddad is still rolling strong at 85. We should all be so lucky. Take your time, and ask about any thing you are not sure about. Do it right from the start, and you want be disappointed.

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

Yeah he actually just got home and it stopped raining long enough to go see how bad the wood was (which its now soaked so ill be buying a couple more sheets) and the water was up to the top of the stringers about 9in or more, so i jacked the front end up and it still is pouring out. but any ways i will be taking it out on the water b4 the new deck is all the way in so i can do a leak test on the hull.
thanks

Re: 2005 Florida Vessel 19 FT deck rebuild

UPDATE!

So i figured out why i have no spark its was a combination of old parts first i found out the Coil wasn't so good and then i replaced the spark plug wires (the one from the coil to DIST. had no connectivity at all) and when all that was said and done i still had no spark so all those parts were necessary but did not fix my problem so i went and tested my coil again by jumping it all and it sparked so went and tested my point and wouldn't you know it no ground for one side of the point so i replaced it but it was the wrong one so im taking it back tomorrow and hope to get the right one and have my boat running in a nice fashion. Thanks for all the help im ordering the fiber glass for the boat hopefully next friday i will be getting a fat check this one is tiny this week.

Glad to hear you think you've got the engine troubles figured out, and it doesnt matter how big your check is... That boat will find something for you to blow it on! I personally believe I should own part of Lowes by now! Keep us updated and take plenty of pictures along the way.
