Changed the gear oil on the lower unit the day on my 2006 15 hp merc. Today when i went to fix the trailer lights i noticed that it had leaked a couple drops of oil. upon closer inspection i noticed that i had tightened down the screw and the seal was not sealing correctly and being pushed out. Backed it out just a bit so the seal wasn't being damaged and i have not noticed a leak. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Get the correct plastic ones from your Merc dealer. Don't use o-rings. Make sure the hole is cleaned out first and the screw is not burnished underneath. Should be ok then.

Also make sure there isn't an old seal left in there.
I know the o ring from my pump likes to stay behind when I remove it.

Yea I bought the o rings without first knowing what I needed. Then when changing the oil I thought it was odd that the two seals were different. But thought I'd try anyway. Guess back to the store I go
