I am looking to purchase a 2007 Crownline 23SS with only 63 hours.

It looks like the 5.7L engine has a Carb on it? Or is this just old style throttle body injection?

It also has a bravo 3 duo prop. I have heard pros and cons. Pros being faster plane, better steering and GpH. Cons being not as "fast" as the Bravo 1, also that it gets really hot? Any information would be helpful!

Ayuh,.... It says TKS on the flame arrester, so it's a Carbed motor, No Efi,....

That ain't a "Go Fast" hull, so top speed, 'tween a B1, 'n B3 is a moot point,...

Re: 2007 Crownline 23SS Questions

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I already have a carb boat dont want another. Fuel injection is what I am after.

What I really have my eye on is a 2004 Sea ray 240 Select with the Bravo I and Mercruiser 496 MAG engine. Waiting on a previous offer to fall through on that.

However my next option is 06 sea ray 240 sundeck with 5.0 MPI and bravo III. Thoughts on these 2?

I am surprised Crownline didn't put EFI in that boat. Even my 96 is EFI.

One-way to sum it up would be, If your into cruising in comfort with better overall handling with family onboard at any speed, then the bravo 3 is the way to go. If your single and out playing with the guys that like rough water play, then the bravo 1 would fit the bill.

That is going to be a bit of a dog. And not have alot of hmph and pulling power. Cruising with the family would be fine. Loading the boat up heavy, any kind of towing at all, or wanting to feel that V8 'Get up and Go' isn't going to happen with a 5.0.

I just cant seem to find the right boat in my price range.

I also have a 2006 Crownline 220 EX. Still has that wimpy 5.0 mpi with bravo 3. looks like 22ft. Also appears it is more of a deck boat.

I want something we can load the family up in, ski/board/tube and also haul *** solo. Stuck with a budget just like anyone else.

28k is kinda my limit.

Where are you boating? Lake or ocean?

The first owner just didn't order it. I see it all the time. That said, MPI came out in 2002 and was not a common upgrade on under 20 foot boats as it was on the above 20 foot boats...I see more early MPI years small Crownline Bowriders with MPI that other brands but never understood why that was.

If your in a lake, have you had a look at ski boats? Mastercrafts and such?

Here is one with an LT1 engine. It's your best bet for water sports. It's 330hp in a 21 foot boat so it will haul azz regardless. 18 grand asking price.
1996 Mastercraft Prostar 205 Sammy Duvall

If your just in a lake a straight inboard is a good option for you.

Don't be afraid to go older. I paid a good amount under $10k for mine and it is in fantastic shape. I have all the maintenance records from the Crownline dealer from the PO.

I was thinking the opposite. 1996 is just too old to me no matter how pristine but is about the beginning of when some brands started making nice interiors but still had dated hull designs. 28k in the middle of winter, is a very nice, at least mid 2000's. The bigger the boat, the better the deal.

Crownline made the one I have into the mid 2000's. It is not a dated hull design. Plus I got EFI and the Bravo drive.

Where the back of the side window meets the top of the gunwale is the most obvious part of dated hull design that was common in the 90's but I will agree that the speed of change in the marine world is slow. My sig boat hull was patented in 2001, started as a 2002 model (with caveats) and used on every one of their bowriders until about 2009. So chap used their outdated hull until 2001 or 2002 depending on which model then modernized. I like Crownline and the B3, not so much the old school fuel injection but I love the look of the next generation CL.

Re: 2007 Crownline 23SS Questions

I know what you mean by the side window ending. Mine is not like that. Some of the newer ones look cheap with the window just sitting on top of a flat hull. It reminds me of the 70's and 80's boats.

Re: 2007 Crownline 23SS Questions

As others have stated not interested in pre 2004 boats. Just to old.

With the 5.0L MPI / B3 I could get another set of props for ski and a set for just cruising?

My 1996 is the same boat as the 2005 202 BR Crownline made. I would probably find a prop set that works for both. They are not cheap. If you went with a bigger motor it would be easier to just leave the same prop on.

I don't think a lot of guys do that just because it's very expensive to play around with proping a dual prop outdrive.

I have a 2004 Glastron GX 235 w/ Volvo 5.0 Gxi single prop. Mine is a little doggy but not too bad, being the x motor it has 270 HP which is OK, however I do wish I had the 320 HP 5.7 gxi with duo prop but new that was probably 6-8k over mine when new and I don't think it's worth that. I got a smoking deal on mine used from a great seller and I couldn't pass it up.

As others have said that sundeck 240 with 5.0 will be a dog. My friend has the 200 with 5.0 and it's kind of doggy.

I'd definitely recommend a slightly larger bowrider over a deck boat. I have driven the 21' deck boat version of mine and there isn't any more room, it didn't handle as well at slow speeds and definitely don't like the look. Good luck in your search, I love boat shopping.
