Re: 2007 Tahoe milage

...The TB with the inline 6 should tow 4k without issue even with the 3.42 and no rear locker as everything on the Trailblazer was an additional option it seemed (again for those not as familiar as the op)...

Almost all 4WD GM trucks are spec'd with the G80 option code locking rear axle. I have not seen a 4WD GM truck in the last 20 years on a new car lot without one.
That being said, what does a locking diff have to do with fuel mileage? Nothing.
The Atlas 4.2 I6 engine was a gas HOG! That's one reason GM decided to offer the 5.3 V8 in the TB and the Envoy. No real fuel mileage penalty, with more HP and torque. No brainer.

Yep probably true except amazingly it was an option on the Trailblazer LS and Lt, standard on the Rainier, TB SS and 9-7x. Lots of used buyers out there found that out too late. For towing/difficult ramps besides the 4x4 option, it was probably the cheapest and best option on the list. Like I said just about everything was an option on the standard Trailblazer. Sorry, yes no effect of mileage. Suprised the 4.2 never made it in any other vehicles. It still hold its own even in today's market.

Have to agree on the Trailblazer. We just love ours and the torque from that 4.2 is amazing.

Re: 2007 Tahoe milage

My Trailblazer tows my rig better than I thought it would. Have probably 3k towing this summer. Powerwise, it's more than reasonable, suspension wise, it's spongy. I installed rear airbags, and they helped.

With 140k on the TB, I'm looking to replace it. just trying to figure out if I want to go bigger...

Thanks for all the input.

It's simply because it's expensive to produce (aluminum head with DOHC) and gets abyssmal fuel economy.

I suppose but I see the the vehicles that did have them everywhere. I gotta think there were some economies of scale going on.

Re: 2007 Tahoe milage

I know this won't answer your question, but.......

I have a Ford F-250 with the 6.0 diesel. Unloaded and at a steady 60 MPH the computer shows around 20MPG. When I hook my 2001 Sea Ray 270DA up to it (around 10,000 pounds loaded and with trailer) the computer shows my mileage at 60MPH to be around 10.5MPG.

Towing a load really "eats gas" or in my case diesel fuel.

My 2007 Tahoe w/ 5.3 and 373 gears gets around 9 when towing. I've got a 2wd and the boat weighs about 5500 lbs. I feel a slight loss of power when I'm going through the mountains, but nothing major. My only complaint is that the braking while towing leaves a little to be desired, even with trailer brakes.

Non-towing, my combined is about 17. On the hwy its around 19, in town, 14-15.

Not anymore you don't. The TB was REPLACED by the Acadia/Traverse. In the overall life cycle of a GM truck, Trailblazer/Envoy's (along with the Atlas I6) was very short. 8 model years with no redesign. That tells you it was a mistake.
