Re: 2008 Lund Rebel SS
bry,
I bought a new 2008 Lund Rebel 1625 XL in April and like Capt C. upgraded to the 60hp 4-stroke Merc motor. I'm not on real big lakes and it gets me where I want to go in good time. It's a great entry level boat. As part of the deal, I got a 3rd and 4th seat, spare tire and carrier.
I didn't notice the lack of a splash rail until someone pointed it out. Not having one hasn't been a problem except one day while in three foot waves and lot's of wind; got a little wet until I used the wind to work for me.
I'd say it's an extremely nice 2-person boat. Three people is a bit cramped.
I've added an on board charger, 12V receptacle, an hour meter and had the dealer install a Sony Marine stereo and speakers a few weeks ago. Looking back, I should've had these in the package when I bought it. Also, the stock Lowrance X50DS is pretty lame. It picks up alot of false readings. I'm planning on a Lowrance 522iGPS when I find an end of season deal and move the X50DS to the bow and ducer to the trolling motor to use when I'm in the trolling seat. These all should've been in my package purchase.
The only "issue" I have with the boat is the flukey gas gauge. The tank is in the floor and is only 4" deep so the float doesn't really move enough to give you good readings at the gauge. As the boat trims up & down, the gauge moves with it (due to the depth of the tank). You almost need to punch it out of the hole to move the gauge and once trimmed level, you get a decent reading on the fuel level. I'd say I'm on my 2nd full tank of gas, and have just about 30 hours on the engine. In my mind, the 4-stroke motor sips the gas!
I think it's a great boat! I went with the red option instead of the black and get a positive comment almost every time I'm at the launch or dock. I just wish I'd added all the afore-mentioned accessories at the time of purchase and negotiated on the package instead of adding them now.
One final opinion........ New boat sales are very slow this year; it's great time to get an excellent deal on a full package.
